The Bauer Supreme One80 Leg Pads offer excellent protection for the advanced level butterfly goalie.
This pad was definitely designed for a butterfly style goalie, with coverage being a key component of the design. Although these pads use Bauer's multi-flex design, or soft-flex, the flat face design restricts how much they flex, allowing for more pad coverage when in the butterfly position. The One80 leg pads use an angled outer roll to provide more coverage and help to control rebounds to the playing surface. With the square design and ultra thin profile of these pads, Bauer has used an extremely dense and stiff foam to provide great protection. Although these pads definitely will require some break-in time, they certainly provide plenty of protection for the advanced level goalies.
Bauer has also used their integrated under pant thigh protector to cover the gap between the pant and the leg pad. this thigh protector uses a contouring design with a mesh liner to fit comfortably on the leg. To provide a customizable fit in the knee Bauer has used their Adjustable Knee Lock, or AKL. The AKL allows you to move the entire inner layer of the knee stack to make the pads fit perfectly to your leg. The top two leather straps of the One80 leg pads are removable, which is a nice feature for the butterfly style goalie that likes a looser fit high up on the pads. This can help to maintain five-hole coverage because the leg pads wont bend with the upper part of the leg as much.
